Twitter Direct Action Training - Sunday 23rd
Posted on Tue 18th Jan 2011, 9:01pm
This Sunday evening Brighton Uncut will be providing Direct Action training via the medium of Twitter! To allow for maximum feedback/response, the training will be split into two sessions (4pm – 6pm/7.30-9.00pm).
The aim of the session is to provide some serious food-for-thought before the next wave of UK Uncut mischief. If as a growing movement we are to keep grabbing headlines and public support we need to ramp-up the creativity of our actions. There is a world of tactics and strategies out there and Sunday’s session will hopefully provide a brief showcase of those which may be best-suited to our urban environment. Crucially, the training will deal with much more than tactics – we aim to cover organising methods, personal security, legal guidance and more…
As it stands the training will look something like this:
What is Direct Action?/ Why take take Direct Action? Affinity group formation (action and support roles) Consensus decision making Direct Action tactics (DA tools) Security for activists Legal guidance for those taking Direct Action What happens if i get arrested? – What will happen to me in custody? Putting it all together! – from affinity formation to successful action. Q & A session
So. Sunday the 23rd of January at 4pm. See you on the Brighton Uncut twitter. All will be re-tweeted on the main UK Uncut twitter.
Proposal for Target: Shop a Tax Dodger
Posted on Tue 18th Jan 2011, 10:55amOn the day before the self-assessment tax forms deadline, the BSRC says...
SHOP A CORPORATE TAX DODGER

So far, the BSRC has gone after high street stores, to great effect. But there are loads of recognisable tax-dodging brands - Walkers, Cadbury, Johnnie Walker, Grolsch - that have got away without being targetted because they don't have shops to shut down.
How about on Jan 30th we Shop A Tax Dodger by going into our local supermarkets and clearing the shelves of these products. Here's the idea:
We all enter the supermarket in ones and twos, banners hidden so we look like ordinary shoppers. We grab trolleys and go to the aisles where the tax-dodging companies reside. Then together, perhaps on a signal, we take all of their products off the shelves and load the trolleys full. On the empty shelf we place a big sign saying: The BSRC has Removed this Product Due To Tax Dodging or X Company's Tax Dodge Could have paid for Y Cut.
Then all the protesters just have to make sure that those products stay off the shelves for as long as possible. One idea might be arranging themselves into a conga line of trolleys, parading around the store chanting and talking to customers. But there's loads of room for creativity.
Can anyone thing of any supermarkets that are also tax dodgers themselves?
How about it?

Twitter Meeting: Tuesday 18th
Posted on Mon 17th Jan 2011, 3:27pmOn Tuesday 19.30-21.00 come to a UK Uncut meeting, hosted on the hashtag #taxmeet.
The Big Society Revenue and Customs' next day of action is on the 30th of January. It is the day before self-assessment tax returns for self-employed people are due, so surely it is the deadline for corporate tax avoiders to make their return to public purse.
But whose door will the BSRC knock on this time?
On our previous actions people around the country have hit all sorts of different targets. However, there have always been one or two wealthy individuals or corporations that have been shamed the most. So far, Philip Green and Vodafone have borne the brunt of our actions.
Who should it be on the 30th?
Has someone got off the hook too lightly? Has one company's sneaky tax arrangements not been fully exposed? Or are you so angry at Philip Green and Vodafone that you think that the BSRC should go after them again?
The criteria for a new target:
- Highly profitable or highly rich tax dodger! - A nationwide target, so actions are replicable up and down the country - Open for business on Sunday 30th January. (That rules out the banks we're afraid!)
Look at the False Economy / PCS favourite tax dodger list:
But are there any others? Get your thinking caps on!
The meeting will start with people making suggestions. A shortlist will be drawn up and debated.
Will there be an outright winner? We shall see…
See you there. Tuesday night. 19.30. Hashtag: #taxmeet
