UNITE backed protest against the governments failure to step in and save Coryton Oil Refinery, instead allowing the administrators to cut a deal with Royal Dutch Shell to purchase it as a terminal and ultimately cut 1000 jobs plus the knock-on damage to the local economy and the local community.
The governments inaction will inevitably lead to higher fuel prices in the coming months as Shell will have a monopoly of forecourts in the south and will charge premium prices for our fuel.
Cameron and his cronies need to sit up and pay attention and look at the bigger picture. The cost of 1000 unemployed people in south east essex is in the millions, the long term effects don't even bare thinking about. This is the 80's mine closures all over again! Several trade union banners all coming together in support of this cause, in a peaceful protest lasting the whole weekend. This affects everyone, so the local community will be joining us in support as the effects ripple outwards from Coryton!
