Saturday is a National Day of Action Against The Cuts!

In Newcastle we will meet at Monument for a rolling picket of companies that dodge tax and support attacks on education and other public services.

While making massive cuts to education and state welfare, the government is letting rich individuals and companies avoid billions in tax: http://www.ukuncut.org.uk/targets

On top of this, heads of many rich companies have signed a letter to The Telegraph supporting the cuts: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/letters/8069609/Osbornes-cuts-will-strengthen-Britains-economy-by-allowing-the-private-sector-to-generate-more-jobs.html

They want to profit while we pay! We will not stand for this!

Everyone is invited to join this protest to defend our education and everything else being cut back and attacked.

URGENT ACTION NEEDED to support arrested anti-cuts protesters

Today there was a very successful protest in Newcastle against the cuts, called by Students Against Cuts and supported by hundreds of people who picketed banks, tax dodgers and shops supporting the cuts. Despite the protest being peaceful the police arrested two participants, Patrick Reay and Mark Pearson. A picket of the police station has been held and we urge everyone to phone the police to demand the protesters are released. Call 03456043043 and ask to be put through to the custody sergeant at Etal Lane Police Station.

This was an excellent demonstration which i felt gave rise to some very positive questions and feedback from people not in the protest. I think it raised awareness. I personally will continue to support the protests and continued action is what is needed. Too many people do not know what is going on!
